Teaching

I teach creative writing in a variety of settings, including New York University’s School for Professional Studies. Here’s one of my recent course offerings:

Big Mood: Experiments in literary affect

Can a sentence be happy? What are the markers of feeling—its grammar or syntax? How do feelings give rise to literary forms and frame contemporary predicaments?

In this Corporeal Writing webinar, we’ll investigate and experiment with affect. We’ll consider feeling states such as anxiety or distraction and look at examples of how some writers have worked with them in fiction, poetry, and essays. Together, we’ll discuss the relationship between affect and form and try out some of these forms ourselves.

The session will include brief readings, discussion, and some writing prompts. All writers are welcome. If you would like to discuss your access needs prior to the webinar, please send me a note: brankfree@gmail.com.
